Scientists and teachers, business leaders and policy makers, and officers for the US Army. USM and its Army ROTC program prepare students to be innovators and leaders for the 21st century. We produce lieutenants for the active Army, the National Guard, and the US Army Reserves. Each component has 16 branches that cater to multiple interests, including infantry, military intelligence, aviation, engineering, armor and medical services corps. Warriors wanted, each with a breadth of perspective who:
- Demonstrate a capacity for excellence
- Confident they will be competent Army leaders because of the rigor of the program
- Committed to the Army for the duration and open-minded about further service

Our courses develop individual leadership and group problem-solving skills, plus you get to experience the out-of-classroom labs that get you adventuring outdoors including: Rappelling, rifle marksmanship, obstacle courses, and land navigation. Contracted students can also participate in adventure training in airborne, air assault and mountain warfare training schools.

The high school Four-Year Scholarship is for high school students planning on attending a four-year college program. You can also recieve a 3-year Advanced Designee scholarship, which means that your scholarship money wouldn't kick in until your sophomore year.
Did you know that Federal Tuition Assistance helps cover 15-18 undergraduate or graduate credit hours per academic year based on your branch of service? Approved TA course hours will be paid with your Federal Tuition Assistance and the TA Gap Funding Program from USM!

Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast at Thad Cochran Center
The Mu Gamma Lambda and Mu Xi chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 19th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Ecumenical and Scholarship Prayer Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 20, in the Thad Cochran Center ballrooms at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus. Admission is free and members of the university and local communities are invited to attend. Carlton Reeves, district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi and chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, will serve as guest speaker.

Come join the Graduate School and Dean, Dr. Katie Anthony, and Executive Associate Dean, Dr. Iliyan Iliev for free donuts and great conversation. We are excited to welcome students to campus for the 2025 spring term at Southern Miss! Donuts with the Deans will take place on Thursday, January 23, from 9-10 a.m. in JB George, room 142.

Connoisseur's Series Presents Tommy Mesa and Yoon Lee at Marsh Auditorium
Cellist Tommy Mesa and pianist Yoon Lee have quickly become a powerful and collaborative duo, recording an album of contemporary works soon after they met. Their engagements include a performance of a world premiere at a VIP wedding and an upcoming tour at venues such as The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. This cello-piano duo delights their audiences with a range of lyrical works from the traditional classical canon to unearthed gems by contemporary voices.

Thesis and Dissertation Bootcamp (GCRL) at GCRL - Cedar Point Site
The Graduate School will facilitate a Thesis and Dissertation Bootcamp at GCRL on Friday, Jan. 24, in Cedar Point A from noon to 2 p.m. During the event, master's and doctoral students will have the opportunity to gain assistance from the Graduate School Documents Specialist, Kayla Schreiber, and learn more about the templates and Aquila submission process. We will answer questions throughout the workshop about individual projects (thesis, dissertation, or doctoral project). Students are encouraged to bring their laptops and projects to follow along with the instructions being shared. Students at any stage of the process of writing their thesis, dissertation or doctoral project (from proposal stage to Aquila submission stage) can benefit from attending this workshop. SMAC S'mores and More at Spirit Park
The Southern Miss Activities Council will hold its annual S'mores and More to welcome students back for the spring semester. The event features chocolate, s'mores, games, music and fun. Students should bring their ID for admission.
