Tell us more about what interested you about your field of study.
I became really interested in Ocean Engineering when I attended USM’s Hydrography Day during my Junior year in high school. I was fascinated by the many uses of oceanographic instruments to study the ocean floor.
Therefore, I chose Ocean Engineering as a major because this is where ocean science and engineering meet to develop/design future instruments to study the ocean. I believe there are many opportunities to create systems to protect coastal structures that can survive the harsh ocean environment.
These underwater systems include Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Autonomous Underwater
Vehicles (AUVs), submarines, etc.
Why Southern Miss?
Initially, I chose USM, Gulf Park Campus, mainly because it's the only university
in Mississippi that offers this great program. The Gulf Park campus is also conveniently
located close to the USM Marine Research Center, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment
and access to industry-leading ocean engineering research.
What type of job do you hope to obtain in your field of study after you graduate?
My main goal is to have a long career as an Oceanographic Engineer within the Department of Defense, specifically the Naval Oceanographic Office located at Stennis Space Center, Miss. Naval Oceanographic Center.
I would love to be part of this talented team that supports our military members deployed worldwide, defending our great country and protecting our national interests.
