Selected student leaders at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) attended the 7th annual Student Leadership Summit Feb. 24, hosted by the University’s Office of Leadership and Student Involvement (OSLI) on the Hattiesburg campus at the Trent Lott National Center.
The Summit, a free, one-day leadership conference open to any Southern Miss student, has not been held since 2020 due to in-person meeting restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We were delighted to be able to bring back the Summit this year,” said Dr. Emily Holmes, director of the OSLI. “Our students continually tell us that out-of-the-classroom experiences like this help develop them into more well-rounded, capable leaders.”
The Student Leadership Summit allows students to spend the day transforming their leadership potential. Approximately 40 students from the Hattiesburg campus and the Gulf Park campus attended this year’s event. The day began with a welcome from University President Dr. Joseph S. Paul. Students then chose from two concurrent session options on topics ranging from maximizing your Southern Miss student experience to important social media etiquette.
The summit concluded with a closing and reception, where attendees interacted with session presenters and staff from the USM Division of Student Affairs.
