Saxophone Studio

Page Content

The USM Saxophone Studio has a long tradition of excellence; beginning with the tenure of Kenneth “Buddy” Deans, developed by Dr. Lawrence Gwozdz, and continued now with Dr. Dannel Espinoza. Saxophone students at USM represent some of the most talented and driven students in the School of Music, seeking out leadership positions throughout the university and degrees ranging from music performance and education to engineering and political science. Home to the renowned Saxophone Chamber Orchestra (SCO), the saxophone studio offers students with unmatched performance and educational opportunities that are designed to build on each student's talents and abilities to help guide them into their eventual careers in and out of music.

What Will I Learn?

Each member of the saxophone studio is encouraged to begin developing career and life skills while they are students at the USM. Guided learning opportunities such as:

  • Ensemble management
  • Building a professional social media presence
  • Arranging for large and small ensemble
  • Audio and video production
  • Instrument repair and maintenance
These topics and others allow students to gain the knowledge and confidence to move into the professional world equipped with the skills for success.
