Flute Studio

The Southern Miss Flute Studio has approximately twenty students seeking degrees in
Music Performance (both undergraduate and graduate), Music Education, Bachelors of
Music, and Minor in Music. All music majors have private flute lessons with Dr. Mezzadri
and music minor have private lessons with a graduate flute teaching assistant under
Dr. Mezzadri's supervision. Flute students who join the Southern Miss Flute Studio
come from across the US and from overseas.
Southern Miss Flute Studio fosters a supportive and stimulating learning environment that is based on solid technique and expressive tone. Flute students are encouraged to seek frequent performing opportunities within the university settings as well as the surrounding community. The flute studio has a record of excellence with students winning the prestigious USM Wind and Orchestra concerto competitions (nine winners in the past six years) and awards in regional and national competitions. Several USM flute students have also been performing in regional orchestras.

- Large ensembles (admitted by auditions at the beginning of each semester)
- Symphony Orchestra (4-5 flutists)
- Wind Ensemble (5 flutists)
- Symphonic Winds (5 flutists)
- Concert Band (8 flutists)
- The Pride Marching Band (up to 20 flutists)
