Dr. John Bailey
Associate Teaching Professor
Bio
Dr. Bailey earned his Ph.D. at USM in 1990 in Exercise Physiology under Dr. Walt Thompson, who eventually served as President of the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Bailey's early research interests were in the neural control and metabolism of skeletal muscle cells in humans and other species. These interests later broadened into overall body metabolism and the metabolism of other cell types, including neurons and cancer cells.
Dr. Bailey served on the faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University (MSUCVM) from 1998-2009. He earned tenure at MSUCVM in 2003. He received national recognition for teaching at MSUCVM in 2000 and 2004, receiving the Carl J. Norden/Pfizer award for outstanding teaching. He also received the Dean's Pegasus Award for teaching at MSUCVM in 2002. He received national recognition for teaching in human medicine in 2012 while he served as a founding faculty member and full professor at the WCU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
