Dr. Paula Smithka

Bio
Paula Smithka has a Ph.D. and M.A. in philosophy from Tulane University, a B.A in philosophy and B.S. in biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She specializes in philosophy of science with an emphasis in philosophy of biology and social/political philosophy. Dr. Smithka has co-edited two books with Courtland Lewis, "Doctor Who and Philosophy: Bigger on the Inside" and "More Doctor Who and Philosophy: Regeneration Time." Both books are fun, but serious philosophy addressing philosophical issues in the British science-fiction series. She also has co-edited, "Community, Diversity, and Difference: Implications for Peace," with Alison Bailey. She teaches courses in philosophy of science, epistemology, philosophy of human nature, logic, and philosophy through science fiction. Her present research interests include philosophy of biology, philosophy of mind, and, in social/political philosophy: tolerance, “mind viruses,” and issues in war and peace.
