Navigating the Research Landscape

Graduate School
This is your gateway to a wealth of resources and opportunities to help you navigate the research process and achieve your academic milestones.

Research and Scholarly Integrity Assurance Program (CITI) 
Ensure you're on the right path by completing the mandatory CITI program, which we recommend that students do so early in their graduate careers!

Human Interactions and Animal Testing Research
For research involving human interactions for data collection (interviews, workshops, observation, etc.) or animal testing, be sure to explore the additional CITI modules and procedures for approvals. Find more at Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

 

Funding Your Research 

Discover various funding opportunities within USM. Consult with your graduate advisor and faculty mentors to understand the norms in your field and explore funding options. Many schools within the College of Arts and Sciences have some funds available for research and professional travel. 

Graduate Student Research Grants
Both Master's and Doctoral students have the chance to secure funding through our Graduate Student Research Grant competition.

Graduate Student Travel Awards
Our College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate School offer travel awards to support your attendance at conferences and research-related events.

Mississippi Space Grant Consortium
The Mississippi Space Grant Consortium (MSSGC) is a statewide non-profit organization supported by NASA whose membership includes 17 institutions of higher learning across the state, including Southern Miss. The NASA Space Grant program is designed to encourage and motivate excellence in student performance and to raise awareness of NASA employment and research opportunities among students with relevant majors at Southern Miss.
